Hi. FYI, I’ve been updating my Codebook database (which is years old) to try to get all my category entries using the same format. Over the years, each category has entries with wildly different formats due to the creation of oldest entries before I used templates as well as because of changes to templates over time.
When I’ve copied from one entry (with the website field filled in) as a template for another entry, I notice that the website field persists even after I erase its contents for the new entry (often multiple times). To fix this, I have to delete the website field and then add it as a new website field. This doesn’t happen with any other type of field.
It’s not a serious bug, but it’s slightly annoying.
@Newton991 , Hi and thanks for reaching out to us on the message board. That is interesting, can you tell me which platform you are seeing this on so we can investigate a bit more. I have tested this out for a little while and I am not seeing any issues so far, thanks!

Don
Actually, this Template idea sounds like something that would be a natural for development to add to Codebook, with a separate section in the DB to hold multiple templates (with descriptive names) that could be a third option for adding a new Kind of Entry: Item, Note, or Templated Item, which if selected, displays a list a list of templates. Templates could have a special section in the DB, and be put there by users who name and create each different template and pre-populate or leave blank entries in the template data fields. I would certainly use such a feature, My Codebook DB started by importing from a long used password database from some guys in St Petersburg, Russia, and it had no concept of standardized entries, hence neither does my Codebook DB. I can foresee some immediate benefits – for example, Web Site login information would always have the User Name in the same place, URL in the same place, and Password in the same place. The template use could even contain mandatory fields, which would not let the new entry be saved unless there was data in the required field or the template-required field could be removed from the new entry if not germane.
Whatcha think.
@DanDanz , Hey Dan, we have had the Templates concept around for a while, here is some info: Codebook Help - Creating Templates
