Changes to Sync

When i switched my sync from Google to Desktop,
[1] i am certain it was advertised as automatic when my phone was in range of the desktop. This does not happen.
[2] i am certain i was able to initiate the sync from my desktop. That has gone away. I need to initiate bi-directionally.
[3] I don’t want to subscribe to a service, how do i stop permanently the full-screen offer on my mobile codebook?

oh wow… I’ve also recently run into Desktop sync issues… on two separate situations (with different MacBooks and iPhones)… do I need to purchase an subscription service? TIA

Hi @MalabarRed

Thank you for your support of Codebook and for reaching out. I’ll be happy to help.

Codebook 5 includes support for automatic sync when subscribing to Codebook Cloud sync service. Automatic sync is not included for other sync services: Codebook Cloud - Frequently Asked Questions

For Desktop WiFi sync, the sync is (and always has been) initiated from your mobile device. The sync operation itself is bidirectional (changes are exchanged from each device involved). There’s more information about that here:

When upgrading to Codebook 5, you should be prompted once after login with information about Codebook Cloud. Are you getting prompted multiple times? If so, can you screenshot what the prompt looks like?

When a sync service other than Codebook Cloud there will be a display on the sync view with information/link to Codebook Cloud. This can’t be removed.

Hi @gwongBC

Thanks for your support of Codebook and for posting to the discussion forum. We’ll be happy to assist with getting any Desktop WiFi sync issues resolved. My colleague had asked you on the other discussion forum post to write into our support: support@zetetic.net when you have the opportunity so we can help troubleshoot the issue.

Please include this information when writing in:

  • What happens when you attempt to sync?
  • Does an error occur? If so, what does the error say? Does a stall occur?
  • Does the sync appear to succeed but data is missing?
  • What versions of Codebook are you using on each device? The version of Codebook for macOS can be found under Codebook menu > About Codebook. On iOS it can be found at the top of [More] > Setting screen.

Thanks!

Edit: Apologies @gwongBC I see that you’ve already written into support and are working with one of my colleagues to resolve the issues.

@gwongBC

One other thing that would be good to check if you’re on macOS Sequoia (which I believe you are), is that there’s a new Privacy & Security setting for Local Network access which needs to be enabled for Desktop WiFi sync to work.

The system should prompt you to enable this setting when Codebook attempts to use it, but we’ve seen a few cases now where folks aren’t being prompted properly (potential bug in macOS Sequoia).

This setting can be found in Apple menu > System Settings > Privacy & Security > Local Network, ensure the switch next to Codebook is turned on.
