Codebook 5 for Windows Upgrade Error

We have gotten a handful of reports of an error after upgrading Codebook for Windows to version 5, released this morning. The error looks about like this:

Message:Failed to display current window.
 Details:System.Windows.Markup.XamlParseException: Initialization of
'Zetetic.Strip.Windows.MainWindow' threw an exception. --->
Castle.MicroKernel.ComponentActivator.ComponentActivatorException:
ComponentActivator: could not instantiate
Zetetic.StripLib.Sync.CodebookCloud.OAuthClient --->
System.Reflection.TargetInvocationException: Exception has been thrown
by the target of an invocation. ---> System.IO.FileNotFoundException:
Could not load file or assembly 'RestSharp, Version=108.0.2.0,

To fix this, please do the following:

Uninstall Codebook

On Windows 11

  1. Go to Start menu > Settings > Apps > Installed Apps
  2. Search for Codebook in the list
  3. Click the three-dot menu icon, and choose Uninstall

On Windows 10

  1. Go to Start menu > Settings > Apps
  2. Search for Codebook in the list
  3. Select Codebook in the search results list
  4. Click on the Uninstall button

Reinstall Codebook

Run the installer for the latest version again; you can download a fresh copy of the installer here:

https://www.zetetic.net/downloads/codebook/windows/CodebookSetup.msi

Your Codebook data is stored separately from the application. Uninstalling Codebook will not delete your data.

I also encountered an upgrade in place error on Windows 11:

"An unknown error occurred: ComponentActivator: could not instantiate Zetetic.StripLib.Sync.CodebookCloud.OAuthClient.

Fortunately, your instructions above to delete the application and reinstall worked.

My data was still there.

No issues on Mac OS or Android.

Great, thanks for letting us know!

We will be providing more information about the cause of the problem soon, along with an updated installer for those who haven’t updated yet.

Hi @Vermithrax,

I’m sorry for the troubles, we were able to identify the issue with the installer. If you haven’t reinstalled Codebook for Windows, you can grab the latest version of the installer (5.0.14) and run that to resolve the issue:

Thank you,
