Master Password Options

Would it be possible to add a fake password option for the Master Password?
I personally know of cases where persons were forced to reveal their passwords under threat by authorities if they did not give the master password.

@Newton991 Thanks for reaching out to us about Codebook and also for your suggestion on the “fake” master password option. This is something that would probably require an additional database within Codebook which is not available currently in Codebook. Also, a user would need to have somewhat legitimate data in the “fake” database or it would not be very useful. There also might be legal ramifications for something like this, so while in theory this might be a nice “to Have” feature, it’s not something we are entertaining at this point in time. If you are generally worried about issues with law enforcement during travel, I would suggest other ways of keeping your data out of the authorities hands such as removing the app when feeling threatened and then re-adding the app and data when in a more secure location. As long as your data is backed up/synced, you can always restore as long as you have a copy of your sync key saved somewhere secure.

Cheers,
Don

So, I’ve come to another solution. I went ahead and installed Bitwarden (free) on my devices and have populated it with fake entries for most of my important accounts as well as minor accounts and nonexistent accounts. Some of the passwords on minor accounts are real.
To make it easier, I’ve created a somewhat easy-to-remember master password for Bitwarden. This way, I have an authentic-appearing password manager I can give to authorities if they force my hand.

Actually, I’d also be interested in the “legal ramifications” you mentioned for having such an “alternate” database.
