Would it be possible to make the “Add Entry” icon on the desktop version of Codebook a different color? Or put a + sign on it? Whenever I go to add another entry (happens about once a month), I have to hover over the two similar icons (Add Note Entry and Add Entry) to figure out which one I need to tap. It’s a small thing, but frustrates me every time. The phone app isn’t a problem since it has the large + in the corner. Thanks for considering this. Cheers.
Hi @glindsay
Thanks for using Codebook and posting to the discussion forum with this suggestion. If I might ask, which desktop platform is this in reference to? Windows? macOS? both?
Thanks for getting back to me. I use Codebook on both Windows and macOS, so as far as a color change for the Add Entry icon, I would suggest it could apply to both platforms. I see now that adding a + to the icon wouldn’t be much good in macOS since there is already a + in the corner of both Add Entry and Add Note Entry. So perhaps a color change (green?) to the Add Entry icon would be all that is needed.
Sorry, just to make clear, the + in the macOS is in the “Create new entry” and “Create a new Note”.
Thanks for the response and further details. I’ll discuss this feedback with the rest of the team.
In the mean time, I have a few suggestions which may help in macOS:
Customize Toolbar - Icon and Text
In macOS you can customize the toolbar to add text to the toolbar items, so it’s clear which icon represents which action.
To do this, right click (ctrl + click) on the toolbar and switch to Icon and Text:
Customize Toolbar - Remove New Note
If you mainly just add new entries and not new notes, you can customize the toolbar to remove the New Note toolbar button.
In macOS, you can customize the toolbar to add, remove, and re-arrange toolbar items to your liking.
Right click (ctrl + click) on the toolbar and select Customize toolbar. Drag the New Note toolbar icon from the toolbar (in the main window’s toolbar) into the space that says “Drag your favorite items into the toolbar”. This will remove it from the toolbar.
Use Gutter button
In macOS there are gutter buttons (+) at the bottom of the window. The one below the center column (entries list) adds a New Entry.
Use Hotkey/menu
File menu > New Entry, or CMD + N adds a New Entry.
Let me know if any of these suggestions are helpful. Thanks!
Thank you! It worked like a charm on my Mac. I hadn’t realized there was a difference between Mac and PC versions in that respect. Perfect!
@glindsay Glad to hear that the suggestions helped. Can you tell me which one was the most helpful so we can update our feedback information, thanks!
Cheers,
Don
The two suggestions for Codebook for Mac that I used were
Customize Toolbar - Icon and Text (which I enabled)
Customize Toolbar - Remove New Note (which I did, since I don’t often use that feature).
Here’s hoping that the Windows version of Codebook will have similar options soon.
