Adding a new device: Codebook on new mac from Codebook on an iPhone

I have Codebook working fine on my iPhone and just installed Codebook on a new Mac.

I can’t sync my Codebook data from the iPhone to the Mac. When I ‘add a new device’ on the iPhone it generates a QR Code but there’s no way to get Codebook on the Mac to scan the QR Code. Preferences:Enable Sync:Desktop WIFI is checked on the Mac.

What’s the solution for this?

Thanks

Philip

Hi @Philip1

Thank you for your support of Codebook and for posting to the discussion forum. If your macOS computer doesn’t have a camera available, you can import your Codebook Sync Key using the Sync Key Word List.

There’s information here on how to display the Sync Key Word List on your iPhone: Codebook Help - Sync Key Word List

And then on your Mac you can follow these steps to enter it:

  1. Login to Codebook for macOS.
  2. Go to Sync Menu > Setup Sync Key
  3. Choose Yes (I already have a Sync Key).
  4. Choose “Enter Word List”
  5. Enter the Sync Key word list as it appears on your iOS device.
  6. Perform a Sync. There are instructions here for how to perform a Desktop WiFi sync: https://www.zetetic.net/codebook/documentation/sync/?platform=ios#start-sync-wifi

Let me know if this allows you to import your Codebook Sync Key and sync your devices. I’ll be happy to help if you run into any issues along the way. Thanks!

Hi,

  • I have Codebook working fine on iOS.
  • I’ve installed Codebook on a new Mac.
  • On the Mac Codebook is locked.
  • On the Mac I enter my master password (same Password used on Codeebook on iOS).
  • On the Mac I get “Invalid password, please try again”

How do I solve this?

Thanks,

Philip

@Philip1

Thanks for the response.

If all your Codebook data is present on your iOS device, we can reset Codebook for macOS by following these steps:

  1. Quit and close Codebook on your Mac.
  2. Open Finder and access Go menu > Go to Folder, then paste this location into the address bar: ~/Library/Group Containers/PD7G6HRMGV.net.zetetic.STRIP/Strip and go to that location.
  3. Within that location is a default.codebook or default.strip package. Move that package to the trash.

Follow these instructions to import your Sync Key by word list and sync with your iOS device: Codebook Help - Syncing with a New Device

Let me know the results. I’ll be happy to help if you have any questions or run into any issues. Thanks!
