Copying Database to New PC

In the past, when setting up Codebook with my database on a new PC, I have simply installed Codebook on the new PC, created a blank/new database, and then copied my settings.db and strip.db files to the new PC in C:\Users\\AppData\Roaming\Zetetic LLC\Strip, overwriting the ones there. This worked fine, opening Codebook on the new PC I would be prompted for my password and my database would open.

However, today I am setting up a new laptop of mine and followed this procedure. This time when I opened Codebook after copying the database files across, Codebook crashed. I tried again, copying ALL the files in C:\Users\\AppData\Roaming\Zetetic LLC\Strip to the new laptop and this time Codebook opened and prompted me for my password but then gave a different error and wouldn’t open.

I ended up having to use my iPhone as an intermediary, syncing over wi-fi with my old PC and then syncing the iPhone with my new PC. This appears to have worked.

However, I would still like to know if it is possible to transfer to a new PC by copying database files or is syncing the only way now?

BTW - I’m using the latest version of Codebook on all my PCs and devices, i.e. 5.3.6.0

@ikrananka Hello and thanks for writing in on discuss. You will need to run the Codebook for Windows installer before replacing the strip.db and settings.db files. Can you try doing this and let us know what happens? If you need to sare additional information that might be personal, you can reach out to us for more private support at support@zetetic.net.

That is exactly what I did. I installed Codebook on my new laptop, skipped the Codebook Cloud options and then had to enter a password to create a new blank database. I then copied across the settings.db and strip.db files from my old PC and that’s when the crashes and errors started.

@ikrananka Can you look in in the following location and see if there are any crash reports you can send to us: C:\Users\\AppData\Roaming\Zetetic LLC\Strip\Crashes . If so, please send them to support@zetetic.net.

Cheers,

Don
