@zoron, Thanks for reaching out to us about Codebook and your import from Bitwarden and sorry to hear that you had some trouble. Let me try to address your concerns inline:
1-the Bitwarden CSV option did not work. I had to go in manually to adjust the CSV file following THIS tutorial. While I was able to, its not convenient, would be difficult in a mobile world, and the general public will not be able to do it. The renaming should be done by the app itself. - Sorry to hear that you had trouble with the tutorial but it’s certainly possible that some of the field and entry info in Bitwarden has changed over time. Also, we don’t offer the export/import function in the mobile devices and renaming has to be done manually as Codebook doesn’t know the field name coming in from the other app except the default fields and this is explained in the tutorial. If you got any sort of errors, please let us know.
2-The imported data had the fields display in ;
1 type:login
2 reprompt; 0
3 website
4 username
5 password
There is no reason for “type” to be selectable field in the codebook secret agent, its one more field you have to skip each time. “reprompt” adds nothing of value, another field to skip every time. Websites should be last field. it should be;
1 username
2 password
3 website
Type and Reprompt are not default labels in Codebook so the desired label names would need to be created in Codebook and then you can change the label names on the entries to what you like. Unfortunately, the CSV import does not support field ordering. Also, users can add entry fields in any order they like and you can certainly adjust them but we can take a look at that part of the import to see if there is an issue.
3- The notes field looks “funny” weird as the field name expands as big as the notes themselves, check out how huge the blue highlight is. (couldn’t add a second image due restriction on your forum)
The note field will wrap to fit the screen size and adjustments on the window so it should only be as large as the note as long as there are no spaces in the note. We increased your trust level so you can post additional screenshots in the future.
4-last but not least, i’d rather have an option for “lock on restart” for the secret agent as its really annoying having to retype the long vault password every 30 min or so. For someone who spends 4–5 hours a day online, this means i will have to retype the password something like 8 times a days
On the Mac version you can set the auto-lock to multiple timeouts intervals(Codebook->Preferences/Settings->Locking) so if you want to set it to an hour, as long as you use SA once an hour it will stay unlocked. You can enable Touch ID so you don’t need to use your long password each time. It’s a bit of weighing security with a shorter auto-lock time vs the ease of getting data in and out of Codebook via Secret Agent quickly.
Cheers,
Don
